Heute bin ich ein bisschen faul und kopiere den englischen Bericht aus der Mitgliederzeitschrift des Overseas Women’s Club ins Weblog. Die Bilder habe auch nicht ich gemacht, sondern ein professionelles Fotostudio:

This year‘s India Night was a marvelous success.  The sold out event with over 200 in attendance raised 200,000 rupees for OWC Charities.  The Ladies and Gents did not disappoint as they dazzled in their fancy Indian dress of stunning sarees and, yes, even daring displays of turbans by some of the men!
Upon arrival, guests were greeted by a traditional Indian welcome with an adornment of colorful Kumkum powder and fragrant garlands of jasmine. There was even a mahendi station available to perfectly complete one‘s look for the evening. Guests were then offered a photo opportunity with a nicely lit deepa candle immersed in a bed of brilliant flower pedals in the foreground.  The pictures were handed back to the guests in a decorative frame enabling all to walk away with an immediate and memorable account of the evening.  An assortment of gift bags filled with goodies including chocolates, perfumes, bangles, and bindis were also distributed.
After enjoying a variety of tasty wines and flavorful cocktails infused with cinnamon and mint, all were beckoned by the beating of drums to the opulent Grand Ballroom of The Leela Palace where the entertainment began!  We were treated to the astounding dance performances of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, whose elements include Indian physical and performance traditions ranging from the martial art form of Kalarippayattu from Kerala, and body principles of Yoga, to the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam.

Their mesmerizing performance was followed by a lavish dinner of delicious Indian cuisine and delectable desserts. There was also a silent auction room where items such as antique dowry boxes and custom made dresses by designers including Michelle Salins, Nirmirta Lalwani and Ritu & Rochna were up for bid. Raffle tickets were also sold to benefit OWC charities, awarding prizes such as weekend getaway packages and restaurant packages redeemable at all of our favorite eateries.
The evening offered an exciting introduction for those new to Bangalore, and a refreshing reminder for the seasoned, of the mystique, magic, and unique intricacies of the Indian culture that we each have the privilege of enjoying.
